Formatting Your List For Global Group Send

Global Group Send requires that the list of contacts be saved as a tab-delimited file. A tab-delimited file contains one contact per line, and each field is separated from the others by a  single tab character. (A "field" is a single "chunk" of information such as a  first name, a phone number, the city name, etc.)

The fields on a line must  be arranged in a certain order. The first three fields are mandatory, and must always be present or Global Group Send will not accept the upload. The first field must always be the e-mail address. The second must always be the first  name. The third must always be the last name.

You may also include up to fourteen additional fields. These fields include postal address information, a phone number, and up to eight custom fields that can be used for whatever you  want. The order of the fields must always be as follows:

      1. E-mail address (mandatory)
      2. First name (mandatory)
      3. Last name (mandatory)
      4. Address
      5. City
      6. State/Province
      7. Zip code/Postal  code
      8. Country
      9. Phone number
      10. Custom field #1
      11. Custom field #2
      12. Custom field #3
      13. Custom field #4
      14. Custom field #5
      15. Custom field #6
      16. Custom field #7
      17. Custom field #8

All lines in the file must have the same number of fields. If you include fields 1 through 5 on the first  line, then all lines in the file must have fields 1 through 5. Except for the first three fields, which are mandatory, you may leave fields blank if you like.

Note that when viewing your  file with a text editor, the columns may look ragged or misaligned. This is  okay, and you should not try to make the columns line up with each other, as  this will confuse the software and cause Global Group Send to reject your  upload.

Please note that if the  file is formatted incorrectly, Global Group Send can usually identify the problem and give you instructions on how to correct the problem. If you're not sure whether a file is formatted correctly or not, go ahead and upload it. You  won't break anything, and if the format is bad, Global Group Send can tell you  how to fix it.
